obesity2 0 Obesity Risky for CancerA Canadian research has revealed that numerous obese people lack lean muscle mass which can put them at higher risk in battling diseases like cancer. The study which carried out at the University of Alberta in Edmonton got that body compositions of any cancer patients determined their survival rates and their activity levels during the illness and even the reaction to chemotherapy treatment.

According to a university release stated – as part of the research, the study group which led by oncology professor Vickie Baracos, got computed tomography images of 250 obese cancer patients. Their findings discovered that patients with a condition called sarcopenic obesity (a depletion of lean muscle mass, paired with being severely overweight) lived about 10 months less than the counterparts who were obese, but had more lean muscle mass. Moreover, the study got that obese sufferers with lean muscle mass as well tended to much bedridden and in worst physical shape than patients with no sarcopenic obesity. Vickie Baracos says, ” In many cases, people with sarcopenic obesity have as little or sometimes less muscle mass than thin people who look as of they were made of skin and bones.”

The result of the research showed that future prognosis for cancer patients will have got to get the body composition into consideration. Baracos said, factors like lean muscle mass can play a part in how those patients reacted to chemotherapy, and drug dosing could potentially be improved. She said, ”It remains to be proven whether tailored doses of chemotherapy would improve treatment, but that’s possible based on what we’ve seen in this study.” She added, ”With obesity reaching new levels, new concepts relating to body weight must be explored. People’s body compositions were less variable in the past and the condition of sarcopenic obesity is a recently recognized phenomenon.”

ban avandia Consumer Group asks Government to ban AvandiaThe consumer group, public citizen is doing the work right job in right time by asking U.S. government to band Avandia, dangerous drugs that pose a safety threat to the American public. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should immediately ban the dangerous diabetes drug Avandia because it can cause death from liver failure and has many other life-threatening risks that far outweigh its benefits, Public Citizen said in a petition filed today with the agency.

Avandia was FDA standard in May 1999 for the cure of type 2 diabetes. Avandia is supposed to be used in addition to diet and exercise to develop blood sugar control. At that time Avandia became one of the most popular drugs for the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. But, in March 2000, the Public Citizen Consumer group appealed to the FDA for the instant revision of “inadequate, misleading, and potentially dangerous professional product labeling” for the diabetes drugs referred to as “glitazones”, which contain Rezulin, Avandia and Actos. Sadly, Avandia has been connected to a number of serious side effects.

In 2003, medical specialists at the Mayo Clinic exposed that Avandia was linked to six cases of heart stoppage in aged men undergoing treatment for type II diabetes. These men have symptoms of weight gain, shortness of breath, and liquid in the lungs, which all happen when the heart can no longer force blood through the circulatory system which can cause fluid build up in the body. Some experts suggest that Avandia raises the risk of heart attack by 30 to 40 percent. Others, liver related all problems such as stomach pain; jaundice; vomiting are also associated with Avandias. Public Citizen said its own research found 14 cases of liver failure linked with Avandia, 12 of which led to death. The petition also said Avandia dispose some patients to eye troubles, anemia and bone fractures.

Avandia use dropped sharply for its serious side effects but unfortunately, about a million U.S. patients still take it. So for bringing the real worse of health Public Citizen, filed a petition with the Food and Drug Administration to have Avandia taken off the market.

A latest research has revealed that giving vitamin D supplements to the kids in infancy might cut the risk of developing type1 diabetes later in their life. According to the research, researchers at the Joslin Diabetes Center got that three-quarters of youngsters with type 1 diabetes were got to have insufficient levels of vitamin D. Lori Laffel, M.D., M.P.H., Chief of the Pediatric,  Adolescent and Young Adult Section at Joslin, Investigator in the Section on Genetics and Epidemiology, and senior author of the paper, said, “To our surprise, we found extremely high rates of vitamin D inadequacy. We didn’t expect to find that only 24 percent of the study population would have adequate levels.”

For this research, the researchers measured levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D in 128 youngsters with type 1 diabetes ranging in age between 1.5 and 17.5 years. The new one sample included individuals with new onset of diabetes and those who had long-established diabetes. The study found 24% had sufficient levels whereas 61% with insufficient levels as well as 15% to be poor or having the lowest levels. Usually, those who got deficient levels were the oldest people of the subjects. Indeed, 85% of the youths in the sample demonstrated insufficient vitamin D levels.

The researchers’ discovered that diabetes itself is able to negatively impact bone health alongside is associated with a humble reduction in bone mineral density along with strength and an boost in fracture risk among those middle-aged as well as older. Simultaneously, vitamin D deficiency in infants and kids is associated with bone deformation, whereas less severe vitamin D insufficiency prevents youths from attaining their optimal bone mass and could contribute to increased fracture risk in their later life. They found that for those reasons, vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency poses an increased risk for kids with diabetes. On the other hand, reduced sun exposure, diminished milk intake, substituted by intake of sugar-free beverages among adolescents with diabetes, might account for inadequate vitamin D levels.
