Difference between strep throat and sore throat

Methods used in treating throat problems

Home cures include essential oil therapy.Inhalation: Add just two drops of peppermint oil to pot full of steaming water. Alternatively, find a diffuser for inhaling oil.

Gargle: Take warm water in a glass. Add myrrh oil. Gargle for 2 minutes.

Oral medicine: OTC medication like Coricidin, benzocaine mucous membrane, Nite Time Cold-Flu Relief Oral and Nite-Time oral is freely available. Antibiotics will be prescribed if infection is diagnosed as strep throat.

Topical application: Make a mixture with oils you like or use a cream as base to prepare the application for your chest or throat. Base cream must be mild. Oil can be jojoba or coconut oil.

Chest/ throat rub: If your cold persists, apply Vicks Vaporub. You can relieve congestion of mucous membrane and throat this way. People use combination of oils too such as those of peppermint, tea tree, oregano and sage. Carrier oils or cream is used to mix.

Bath: To a tubful of warm water add a few drops of special oil. Breathe in the vapors when you have the bath.

Throat swab (orange-oil): Take a q-tip and clean the throat. Before you swab, use orange or chamomile oil to immerse the cotton pod.

Mouthwash (sage/lavender): Prepare a mouthwash using preferred essential oil mixed with salt. Gargle once every four hours until you retire.

Massages with chamomile or thyme: Knead entire throat with mixes like thyme and chamomile oil. Add lemon or ginger to mixture if you prefer.

Tackling Throat Infections with Herbs or Spices 

Hyssop: Having a distinctive nature of fighting bacteria and infection, Hyssop is used as stimulant or tonic, nervine or hypertensive, diuretic or digestive substance. It rids excess mucous formation, relieves cold, alleviates symptoms of bronchitis, influenza and asthma.

Oregano: Fights bacteria very effectively and so oregano oil finds use in preserving food and treating bacterial infections.

Usually, sore throat becomes all right within two days. However, for strep throat, symptoms may last a few days longer. Use OTC medication and if the symptoms do not alleviate within one week, consult your medical practitioner.

    It depends on what you want it for. Eucalyptus oil will clear your nasal passages and ease stuffiness while orange oil will improve the flavor and smell of the cream or biscuit.

    There is no such thing as a dangerous cold. All the cold symptoms usually vanish within two or three days. But, a strep throat will cause more irritation.
